Wanda UK appointed JBDS to undertake the works, JBDS had to liaise with the client, the clients consulting team (SLW, Gleeds & AKT), the phase two drainage contractor, the main contractor (Multiplex), The third- party land owner of the New Covent Garden Market (St Modwen & their consultant Vinci). Thames Water & the local council Wandsworth, both of who, have a vested interest in the scheme. Lastly, liaise with the New Covent Garden Market demolition contractor who had ownership of the site. We had the arduous task of placing all the above into one integrated team.
Mobilisation commenced, with a 140m full timber hoarding line erected to contain our works & a full welfare compound set up. We programmed two deep drainage teams to start downstream on site at the two connection MH’s (Previously constructed by others).
Due to the unforeseen delays experienced, we worked 12 hour shifts and 7 days per week for a large section of the project, so we could meet the target programme of 12 weeks (from our advised 17-week programme). JBDS and the clients project team came up with a value engineering solution where we were able to omit from the works 35m of 5m deep open cut & 2nr MH’s. This offered a huge cost reduction to the project, whilst also saving the client valuable on-site space , whilst reducing the programme length, even with the various delays that were encountered, the works were within budget and completed within time.
