JBDS were contracted by the client to liaise with all pre- construction administration on the works regarding the proposed design, acting as consultants to get the Section 278 in place. We attended various meetings with the client, the client’s designer and TFL to produce traffic management plans. In depth programming and changes to the design were made to get an agreed design consistent with TFL’s streetscape standards and their traffic management requirements.
As a considerate contractor with customer care at the forefront to our business values, neighbouring residents were given a letter drop prior to the works commencing. The works began with a full traffic management set up in line with the various phases agreed with TFL and the client. The scope required a new gulley connection within the CS7 cycle super highway lane. Problems became apparent regarding the gulley connection works, which we were able to overcome, we forwarded outline sketches to the client’s design engineer and TFL to adopt the change in scope, which we had suggested. This would deviate away from a shaft and heading connection for the gulley, we could connect to an existing adjacent gulley run saving the client considerable time and expense on the works (1.5 weeks off the programme).
The second phase required JBDS to move onto the north bound footway side of the highway. The pedestrians were directed through the traffic management within the CS7 cycle lane. Our team excavated the footpath and constructed the new herringbone black paving loading bay.
The last phase was to construct a new traffic island which were undertaken at night including placement of blacktop around the island and placement of anti- skid and white lining. Whilst attending the traffic light contractor and placing of the new street lighting and rectifying the blue anti-skid resin to the CS7 Cycle super highway.
The project was completed on time and under the contract sum with no health and safety incidents, whilst enhancing relations with our client and Transport for London.
